Operating cost
A twin-turbine helicopter operates around A$3,500 to A$5,500 per flight hour. Leading eVTOL programs target A$700 to A$1,200 per hour at scale, driven by electric propulsion, fewer moving parts, and distributed maintenance.
Noise footprint
eVTOLs cruise at roughly 65 dBA at 100m — comparable to a quiet suburban street. A Bell 407 measures 85 dBA at the same distance. That 20 dB delta is perceptually 4× quieter and is the single biggest unlock for rooftop operations.
Safety architecture
Distributed electric propulsion (typically 6 to 8 rotors) provides genuine redundancy: an eVTOL can lose a motor and continue controlled flight. Certification standards (EASA SC-VTOL Enhanced, FAA Part 21.17b) target 10⁻⁹ catastrophic failure rates — commercial airliner territory.
